Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, 26th February

Ash Wednesday is a day of penitential prayer and fasting, marking the beginning of Lent. Ashes will be distributed at Mass at 7am, 12.30pm and 6pm.

 

Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross will take place a half hour before the 12.30pm and 6.00pm weekday Masses and the 10.00am Mass on Saturday.

 

Friday Veneration of Relic of the True Cross

After the Friday midday Masses during Lent there will be an opportunity to venerate the Cathedral’s relic of the true Cross.

 

Novena to St Joseph

A novena to St Joseph will be prayed after Mass from 10th to 18th March.

 

Station Masses:

You are warmly invited to attend this year’s Friday Station Masses which will be celebrated at the following churches during Lent. Before each Mass there will be an opportunity for Confessions from 6pm-7pm and to participate in the Stations of the Cross from 6.30pm to 7pm.

Easter Triduum

The Easter Triduum is the period of three days that begins with the liturgy on the evening of Holy Thursday and reaches its high point at the Easter Vigil:

 

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper

Thursday, 9th April at 7pm

The commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, when he established the sacrament of Holy Communion and the special priesthood for his disciples, prior to his arrest and crucifixion. The Mass is followed by “Watching” and Night Prayer (Compline) at 10pm.

Silent Walk of Witness

You are invited to take part in a silent Walk of the Cross to Kincorth Hill at 6am from the Cathedral.

 

City Walk of Witness

Ecumenical urban pilgrimage starts 11.30am at St Andrew’s Cathedral, King Street.

 

Celebration of the Lord’s Passion

Friday, 10th April

At 3pm, at a special service, we remember the Passion and Death of Our Lord and venerate the Cross. Then, Communion is distributed (reserved from the Holy Thursday celebration of the Eucharist).

 

 

Divine Mercy Novena

After the service we will begin a Novena to the Divine mercy which will be prayed before each Mass until the eve of Divine Mercy Sunday (19th April). The Novena will also be prayed in the Cathedral every day at 3pm.

 

Holy Saturday

Saturday, 11th April

 

Office of Readings and preparatory rites for those being received into the Church will take place at 10am.

 

Blessing of Food – Święconka

 

Easter Vigil

Saturday, 11th April

The Easter Vigil, which begins at 9.00pm, is the high point of the Easter triduum celebrating the passion and resurrection of Jesus.

Mass at 8am, 11.15am and 6pm

 

Divine Mercy Sunday

Sunday, 19th April

The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed before all Masses this Sunday.

 

May devotion to Mary

For centuries, the Church has set aside the entire month of Mary to honour Mary and the Rosary will be prayed after Mass during this month.

 

Marian Procession

On Saturday 30th May after 10am Mass there will be a traditional Marian procession, after which Mary will be “crowned” with flowers.
