                            There is not one of us who does not need God. We need him in everything that we say, think and do. Prayer is, as St Teresa of Avila said, "nothing more than being on close terms with God, whom we know, loves us."Some of our prayer, carried down to us through the centuries, has become traditional to our way of life. It is always 'there' and sometimes we resort to it almost automatically. It is a comforting companion.

                            Some of our prayer is non-traditional, but is, for all that, equally valid and every bit as much a way of coming close to God.

                            We pray in solitude and we pray with others. There are times when we have special, urgent, intentions, when we need to feel that we are not alone and that there are others praying with and for us.

                            There are prayers that have come down to us because they have been associated with holy people who have been known for their closeness to God.

                            Then there is the prayer that is deep within our hearts and is, perhaps, wordless...
